Stencil Review – Awesome Cloud Graphics Tool
Stencil is a fantastic cloud-based graphics creation tool which is best for social media but also brilliant for WordPress. I have installed it on most of my sites now and I love it, I don’t know why I didn’t check it out before! Stencil is available at getstencil.com. My Stencil review is based on using for several months.
What is Stencil?
Stencil is an alternative to Canva – it does some of the same things but some features are exclusive to Stencil. My favourite feature and the reason for this review is the newish extensions but especially the WordPress plugin.
Stencil, like Canva, allows you to quickly create social media posts, thumbnails for YouTube, social media headers, blog post featured images, Facebook and Google ads and much more.
How much does Stencil cost?
Stencil is available in 3 simple plans paid monthly or the cheaper overall annual payment:
- Pro: $9 (annual) / $15 per month
- Unlimited: $12 (annual) / $20 Per month
The free plan is very limited, to really see what Stencil can do you need the Pro or Unlimited plan as they offer so many more features including photos, icons, templates, fonts, logos and uploads. There is a 7 day free trial which you can use to see if Stencil is a real alternative to the expensive Canva for you.
One thing that I really dislike with Canva is the additional costs when adding photos, icons etc, too many were addons and the costs really add up. Everything you see with Stencil is included for the price you pay – simple.
What are the features of Stencil?
Stencil is cloud-based graphics tool for creating graphics mainly for social media but for any purpose as it has an easy to use resize option.
After using it regularly for the past few months, I appreciate the ease of use when editing images and creating new images.
Feature highlights include:
- Designed for speed
- Simple to use
- 2,000,000+ royalty-free photos
- Simple resizing and custom resizing
- Live preview and simple share
- Automate and schedule images with Buffer integration
- 2,000,000+ icons to use
- 1,000+ templates
- 100,000+ quotes to use and share instantly
- 2,850 Google fonts with Custom fonts upload
- Browser extensions
- Facebook Ad Grid
- Instagram SMS
- WordPress Plugin
The list is very impressive and it seems to be growing. After using Canva for a while to create images I discovered Stencil and used it on and off for a while. I reverted back to Photoshop and Illustrator – but they are pricey to use.
When Stencil released the Chrome and WordPress plugins, I tried again and got hooked. Stencil is better than Canva in my opinion because, what you see is what you get – everything is included.
What Stencil be used for?
Stencil can be used for pretty much any graphics requirements. I use it for mainly blog post images and YouTube thumbnails.
I have started using the icons to create logos for my numerous affiliate sites, just save the image with a transparent background.
There are 1,000+ templates to use straight within Stencil. I have used several and customised with my content and colours, you can simply save and re-edit for the next project.
One drawback with the templates are not neatly organised as I would like, I would prefer stencils divided into categories by type. I think the reasoning behind not doing this is that any image can be quickly modified to any platform size.
Try Stencil Now
Save yourself time and create better graphics quicker and more easily with Stencil while the price is still this low. This Stencil review is based on several months usage and is my honest opinion.
Stencil is a superb online cloud graphics tool for quickly creating social media posts, adding great blog images, YouTube thumbnails, channel art and so much more!
